Set on the picturesque Tutukākā Coast in Northland, together with Booking.com, we invite one lucky pair of Genius members to uncover the flavours of Aotearoa while helping to protect the local marine environment.

Northland is known for its pristine beaches, lush native forest and deep Māori heritage, as well as its proximity to the world-renowned Poor Knights Islands Marine Reserve. The region is also home to one of New Zealand’s growing ecological challenges — kina barren, where overpopulation of kina threatens the balance of healthy kelp forests.

The experience begins with local operators Dive Now, guiding guests along the coastline to hand-harvest kina sustainably. Back on land, Chef Kia Kanuta transforms the day’s catch into a multi-course private dining experience that celebrates the story, flavour and cultural significance of this taonga from the sea.

Guests will then retreat to The Cottage, a private clifftop haven surrounded by vineyard and olive groves, with sweeping ocean views, a deck made for enjoying kina fresh from the water, and its own mermaid pool, home to a resident octopus.

The Booking.com Kina Cottage will be available for booking on a first-come, first-served basis on 23 October at 12pm NZDT for one Booking.com traveller and a guest, for a stay between 20-23 November. For just $20.11 - guests will experience a once in a lifetime itinerary.
